July - Good News & Bad News & Good News

The good news is July and August are nearly fully booked. The bad news is summer arrived in dramatic style on 2nd July with hurricane force winds, thunderstorms, and torrential downpours washing out roads, bunkers, and a golf tournament. The good news is it didn't put off owners and renters enjoying the first week of the season. The bad news is, some of those owners arrived unexpectedly to find renters in their lodge. The good news is Brive Airport is a success with flights quickly filling with passengers from Paris and London who have never visited the area before.

More good news - Press visit to SGCC

press visitJournalists from five UK travel publications visited SGCC in late July including London's Metro, Essex Chronicle, The Wharf, Travelbite, and Running in Heels. The visit was organised by CityJet's press agency and Chris von Koettliz.

As you can see from the photos, the group was impressed by the Club and clearly enjoyed Ludo's company. Click here to see the online offer from Travelbite. We expect other favourable articles to appear soon. More press visits are planned in September. (Click image to enlarge.)

Brive Airport Celebrations
New airport brings new business

A survey of CityJet passengers conducted by Brive airport during its first month of operation brings more good news: the findings reveal that 82% of passengers were tourists, and for 34% it was their first trip to the region - a clear indication that the airport is bringing new business to the area.

After a very successful summer and high pre-bookings for September, CityJet will continue the direct route from London through 31st October and is considering plans to run from Easter to October 2011. Local French residents have also asked for flights during Christmas and the London sales. London is also becoming a hub for connections to the Dordogne from Dublin and Luxembourg.

CityJet also operates several flights a day to Paris Orly with onward Airlinair connections to Brive.

SGCC was there for the opening and continues to be involved in promoting the airport. More info below.

Airport opening

Brive airport - click to enlargeThough many thought the day would never come, Brive Airport opened to commercial traffic with its first flight from Paris on 15th June. Chris von Koettlitz was on hand to greet the inaugural passengers (and pilots, and firemen...) along with the Harringtons from Lodge 91 who provided the photos.

Daily Airlinair flights from Paris year round are supplemented by weekend flights from London on CityJet from June to October. Find out more on the websiteBrive Airport website.

First flight to London - 25th June

Brive LondonHaving welcomed visiting dignitaries to Brive, Chris got the VIP treatment herself on the first flight to London on 25th June. She reports: "Flight was very agreeable and about 80% full. Arriving into London along the Thames on a bright day is a real privilege! Connections from London City Airport (Dockland Light Railway, Jubilee Line, Rail from London Bridge) to Sussex is very efficient – better than going from Gatwick, which is nearer our final destination. Drinks and a sandwich were included in the price – best sandwich we’ve had on a flight for a long time. And of course, golfers can take their golf bag for free."

Airport inauguration

Brive airport - click to enlargeSpeaking of VIPs, Ludo Hanks was among 400 guests invited to the official inauguration (how many synonyms of "opening" are there?) by France's Minister of Transport, Dominique Bussereau. Click to enlarge the images of Ludo accompanying Jean Claude Laval, Mayor of Souillac and Jean Launay, MP for the National Assembly.

What are they smiling at? The two ladies smiling back are Martine Bouchet of the Lot Tourist Board and Chantal Lacassagne, director of the Souillac-Rocamadour tourist office.
