News

There are lots of things going on behind the scenes to keep SGCC an inviting place for owners and guests. These pages will keep you up to date with everything that's happening. Past items are on the websiteNews archive page.

Golf

Lodge owners on the Golf Association committee are working with the Club to improve the condition of the golf course, attract prestigious tournaments, develop young players through the golf school, and build social communities with ladies' roll-ups and seniors golf.

New Marshal

marshallFollowing requests from owners, marshals now monitor the golf course at random times from early morning until evening. Focus is on stopping people playing without paying their green fee, preventing slow play, enforcing the dress code, keeping buggies off greens (!), and listening to constructive suggestions from players. Keep an eye out for David Bowerman. (Don't know David? Click the image to get a glimpse.)

Maintenance News

prebookJuly began with 30mm of rain falling in less than an hour accompanied by high winds, lightning and thunder. Meanwhile, the Club welcomed 28 arrivals during its first big weekend of the season.

While guests settled into their lodges, roads were criss-crossed with ruts (click photo to enlarge). Branches came down but thankfully no trees - though some are missing bits of their summer foliage. A few lodges incurred superficial damage and one or two lost parasols (owners have been notified).

Most of the bunkers were washed out by the storm causing the Club to cancel the Championat du Lot as the course was not in a fit state to play. However greenkeeper Jerôme was up early Saturday morning blowing the greens and tees so that guests could play if they wished. Everyone on the team rallied round to help the first big Saturday go well. Our thanks to them all

  • While all that was going on, a number of ant and wasp nests were cleared from properties by specialist contractors. Notify Club management immediately if you discover a nest.
  • Claude has installed the guttering grills on those houses that requested them. It has been very successful and we encourage those owners who have not taken the offer up to
